DCS Backup Assists with Sarbanes-Oxley
Backup Compliance
The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act of 2002 mandates the method and length of time
certain financial institutions' data are secured and stored. The act places
precise requirements on the security, accuracy and reliability of record keeping.
As a result, data security and storage becomes vitally important. All records
of transactions must be secure. The Corporate and Criminal Fraud Accountability
aspects of SOX require a broad range of corporate documents be retained for
five (5) years. Failure to comply and produce certain documents during an
audit is subject to severe penalties.
SOX, requires that subject data be continuously available 24/7 for a period
of five (5) years. Conventional solutions like tape drives are prohibitively
unreliable, expensive and require the use and maintenance of complex hardware
systems. Tapes also lack effective data encryption methods to prevent unauthorized
access. Physical storage of the tapes themselves and replacing tapes yearly
as directed by manufacturer specifications make tape drive backup a thing
of the past. Ever try a restore off of tape?
DCS Backup provides a cost effective alternative with secure, automated offsite
backup services that helps with SOX compliance without elaborate storage procedures.

DCS Backup's online data backup solutions offer safeguards to assure quality
control:
- Backup data is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption before transmission
and remains encrypted and compressed at DCS Backup's geographically separate
and redundant data centers until restored to client servers.
- Stored information can only be retrieved by authorized personnel using
a user-defined encryption passcode. (Not even DCS Backup has a copy).
- Fully automated backups are scheduled by the user, maintained in a logical
sequence, verified daily with email notifications provided to assure every
backup has completed successfully.
- Data can be stored on DCS Backup's secure servers indefinitely. Retention
periods are configured by the user during initial set up. Backups are
automatically stored for that defined period and can be deleted automatically
after the period stated in the Act (generally, five years) is reached.
- Data is stored offsite in redundant, separate, high security class-A
data Network Operation Centers. Data is available 24/7 and restorable
instantly to any location.
- DCS Backup's customer service team is available around the clock. Daily
backup audits and confirmation e-mails with summary transfer logs are
provided to assure the integrity of every data backup set to provide a
clear audit trail, if necessary.
- DCS Backup logs data access every time a user restores any stored backup
data.
